Running from the police puts lives at risk and rarely does the fleeing party actually get away. In the case of one driver in a Cadillac CT5 not only did they get caught but they managed to have their sedan heavily damaged in the process. Here’s a quick look at the chase and the way police dropped the hammer when the driver finally stopped.

This video comes to us out of a little rural town in Arkansas called Parkin. It sports a population of barely over 1,100 people and on July 21, one person in the town decided that they’d do what they could to evade police. After initially stopping they waited for police to get out of the cruiser before taking off.

Over the next four minutes, the Cadillac driver hits speeds in excess of 140 mph (225 km/h) but never manages to pull away from Arkansas State Police Trooper Blake Irvin. When the fleeing suspect seems to understand that outright speed isn’t going to help him get away he slows down and tries another tactic. This time, it’s driving through lawns and backyards.

Not too surprisingly, that doesn’t work either as Trooper Irvin only gains ground during the low-speed maneuvers. The Dukes of Hazard-esque pursuit ends after the driver ultimately gives up and pulls over. Perhaps Trooper Irvin thought ramming the Cadillac anyway would startle the suspect or maybe he did it out of spite but either way, that’s the next thing that happens.

Irvin drives his car directly into the rear driver’s side quarter panel of the CT5 and lets it slide up that side. He then handcuffs the driver to his door frame to ensure everybody’s safety while waiting on backup.

This entire encounter began over what the officer says was going to be a 72 in a 55 speeding ticket. Instead, this guy received a felony charge and the news won’t be much better once he’s out of jail. According to him, the Cadillac in question is his girlfriend’s car. Perhaps that’s “ex-girlfriend” by the time you’re reading this…
