Lucid Just Issued 3 Recalls For The Air On The Same Day

Three separate recalls have just been announced for the Lucid Air with a touch over 6,200 examples of the firm’s luxury EV sedan needing to be repaired.

The first and perhaps most pressing of the three recalls impact 778 vehicles built between October 22, 2021, and June 29, 2023. Lucid has revealed that cars that have not been updated to software version 2.0.66 or later lack a software feature that prevents unwarned loss of power in the unlikely event of a power module inverter failure.

The car manufacturer first observed inverter power failures in select 2022 and 2023 Airs but in most cases, the driver would receive a drive motor failure warning approximately 2 minutes before the motors shut down completely. However, investigations revealed that in some customer cars, an inverter failure could trigger the fuses to open, resulting in an immediate loss of power without warning. Lucid will remedy the issue by updating the software of all 778 vehicles.

As for the second recall, it impacts 5,523 examples of the Air that were built from October 22, 2021, to June 13, 2023. In this case, the carmaker says the windshield wiper arm nuts may have loosened over time, meaning one or both of the wipers may not work effectively and may cease to function at all. Lucid has already re-torqued the wiper arm nuts on 2,431 vehicles to date and said that this has resolved the problem. It will apply the same remedy to the remaining 5,523 Airs that are impacted.

Last but not least is a recall that impacts 59 Lucid Airs built between November 24, 2021, and January 29, 2023. These vehicles may be susceptible to the rear-view image not appearing when the car is shifted into reverse and impacts 59 vehicles still using a software version between 2.0.15 and 2.0.50. Owners of impacted vehicles will be notified by email and first-class mail and instructed to update the vehicle software.
