The BMW M5 Touring is trading the street for the track as spy photographers have snapped the model undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.

Set to battle the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate, the high-performance wagon will follow in the footsteps of the sedan and adopt a wide grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. While the front bumper is heavily disguised, we can expect a massive intake with angular elements and pronounced air curtains.

Despite sporting an aggressive front end, the car looks pretty tame in profile as there’s not much to communicate its intentions besides a low ride height and lightweight wheels that are backed up by a beefy braking system. Aside from those sporty touches, we can see flush-mounted door handles, an upward sweeping beltline, and a gently sloping roof.

 2025 BMW M5 Touring Hits The Track As It Prepares To Hunt High-Performance Crossovers

The rear end isn’t as subtle as it sports a sizable four-tailpipe exhaust system. It’s joined by an angular rear window, a split spoiler, and wraparound taillights.

The interior should largely carryover from the sedan and this means we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 14.9-inch infotainment system. They should be joined by a flat-bottom steering wheel and a minimalist center console. Of course, the big news is plenty of cargo room which will make the M5 Touring a viable alternative to the company’s high-performance crossovers.

As indicated by the “electrified vehicle” warning stickers, the 2025 M5 Touring has a plug-in hybrid powertrain. BMW has been tight-lipped on specifics, but the model is expected to echo the XM and XM Label Red. The latter has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, a 29.5 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup allows for a combined output of 738 hp (550 kW / 748 PS) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque, although rumors have suggested the M5 could have a smaller battery and up to 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS).

We’ll find out the final numbers soon enough as BMW has confirmed the wagon will be introduced next year.
