Maserati wants its dealers to take a closer look at 59 MC20 Cielo examples. It believes that approximately eight percent are missing sealant that retains a stud connecting the windshield frame to the body. Those with the issue might have reduced body structure performance and diminished roof strength.
According to the Italian automaker, it recognized an issue in production on June 30th, 2023. That same day it opened an investigation regarding cars with missing sealing on a stud that retains the windshield frame. By the 26th of that same month, it determined that the lack of this sealant could compromise roof strength.
Maserati doesn’t say what event or events triggered the investigation or whether or not it knows of any injuries or accidents related to it. What it did release in a filing with the NHTSA is that by July 3rd, 2023, the assembly plant began visual inspections on all cars for stud and sealant presence. So if your MC20 Cielo was built after that, it’s probably not included in this recall.

Nevertheless, those who are impacted by the recall will receive an owner notification letter by September 24th. Those who want to know earlier than that can contact their local Maserati dealership or they can reach out to the NHTSA on its website.
Interestingly, this is at least the second recall for the MC20 Cielo surrounding the windshield. Back in April of this year, it recalled 11 examples due to issues with the bonding between metal and carbon fiber components on the windshield frame itself.
