Rivian’s Dual-Motor R1S Offers An Impressive 352 Miles Of Range

As production of the Dual Motor version of the Rivian R1S ramps up, the EPA has published the model’s efficiency ratings and as expected, it has more range than existing Quad Motor versions of the all-electric SUV.

There are no less than six different Dual Motor configurations of the Rivian R1S that shoppers can choose between. The two most efficient are the Dual Motor Large Battery with 21-inch wheels and the Performance Dual Motor Large Battery with 21-inch wheels. Both of these models are rated at 78 MPGe over the combined cycle and can travel an impressive 352 miles (566 km) on a single charge.

The next most efficient models are also the Dual Motor Large Battery and Performance Dual Motor Large Battery models albeit with the available 22-inch wheels. These bigger shoes drop the SUV’s efficiency rating to 75 MPGe combined and lower the range to 341 miles (549 km). The final two versions are the Dual Motor Large Battery with 20-inch all-terrain tires and the Performance Dual Motor Large Battery with 20-inch all-terrain tires. Both of these models have a combined efficiency rating of 68 MPGe and a range of 307 miles (494 km).

All standard Dual Motor Large Battery versions of the R1S deliver 533 hp and 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) while the Performance model has 665 hp and 829 lb-ft (1,123 Nm).

To put these range figures into perspective, the Quad Motor Large Battery variants of the Rivian R1S have ranges varying from 274 miles (441 km) to 289 miles (465 km), 321 miles (517 km), and 303 miles (488 km) if outfitted with either 20-inch all-terrain wheels, standard 20-inch wheels, 21-inch wheels, or 22-inch wheels. All Quad Motor variants deliver 835 hp and 908 lb-ft (1,231 Nm) and can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.0 seconds whereas the standard Dual Motor and Performance Dual Motor need 4.5 seconds and 3.5 seconds to hit the same mark.
