The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will make its Australian debut at the upcoming World Time Attack Challenge at Sydney Motorsport Park, showing car enthusiasts at the event that it’s now possible to buy and own an EV that’s fun, efficient, and can be a bit of a hooligan.

Japanese drifting legend Kiichi Tsuchiya will drive the Ioniq 5 N for a number of demonstration laps during the two-day event. Given his love for driving cars sideways, attendees are bound to see him make the most out of the Ioniq 5 N’s Drift Optimiser feature that allows drivers to easily maintain drift angle through a turn.

“We are excited to partner with World Time Attack Challenge, which will provide the perfect showcase for the immense performance capability of IONIQ 5 N, our first all-electric Hyundai N vehicle,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Ted Lee said in a statement.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N To Make Drifty Aussie Debut At World Time Attack Challenge

Hyundai isn’t just bringing the Ioniq 5 N to the World Time Attack Challenge either. It will also display the full range of N vehicles, including the facelifted 2024 i30 N Sedan. A Hyundai N TCR race car will also be displayed and Tsuchiya will be signing signatures for fans.

Australian sales of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will kick off towards the end of this year before the first customer deliveries start in early 2024. Local pricing details have not been announced but considering that the related Kia EV6 GT starts at AU$99,950 ($64,077), the Ioniq 5 N is tipped to start at around $110,000 ($70,521). That will make it roughly AU$20,000 ($12,822) more expensive than the Tesla Model Y Performance, but the Hyundai is far more driver-focused, has superior components, and will be much quicker on a racetrack.
