Ruf’s latest 964 lookalike comes with a new air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six and a carbon-fiber monocoque

Ruf was among the stars of this year’s Monterey Car Week, as besides the CTR3 Evo mid-engined flagship supercar and the windscreen-less R Spyder, they revealed another special model. The Ruf Tribute is a homage to the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911, based on the tuner’s fabled CTR Anniversary model and featuring a newly developed air-cooled flat-six engine
Starting with the highlight of the build, the engine was designed in-house by Alois Ruf Jr. infusing new tech in the good-old air-cooled recipe. The twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six has four cams and three valves per cylinder featuring variable valve timing and lift. It also has dry-sump lubrication, dual intercoolers, a Bosch engine management system, and twin catalytic converters.
As a result, the mill produces 543 hp (404 kW / 550 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This is slightly more than the 510-hp naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six of the SCR but much less than the 700-hp twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six of the CTR Anniversary.

From the outside, the Ruf Tribute looks like a tastefully modified Porsche 964 with a custom wide bodykit, modern LEDs, and a beautiful green shade for the bodywork contrasting the copper-finished center-lock wheels and the yellow brake calipers.
However, as with the CTR Anniversary and SCR models, it is actually based on Ruf’s bespoke carbon-fiber monocoque chassis with an integrated roll cage for extra rigidity. The double wishbone suspension with pushrod-actuated coilovers and the large brakes are also carried over, promising extraordinary road-holding abilities.
Ruf didn’t clarify whether the Tribute is a one-off or a limited-production offering, but judging from the newly developed engine chances are it will be offered for sale. In any case, judging from Ruf’s existing model range, the Tribute certainly won’t come cheap.
