Porsche continues to test the facelifted 992 911 and both Coupe and Cabriolet versions of the new 911 Turbo have been filmed on the move at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

While the 911 Turbo has never been the most track-focused version of the 911, the engineers behind the wheel of these prototypes didn’t hold back. They can be seen flinging the duo around corners at extraordinary speeds, pushing them to the absolute limit in an effort to fine-tune the handling characteristics before they reach the hands of customers.

Visual differences between the new and the outgoing models will be limited. The front end looks pretty much identical to the current model and is completely free of camouflage. However, black tape across the rear of the prototypes indicates some minor alterations have been made back there, likely including a new bumper and tweaked LED taillights.

The position of the tailpipes has also been changed as they now sit closer to the outer edges of the bumper, allowing Porsche to implement a more pronounced diffuser.

Powertrain details of the Porsche 992.2 911 Turbo and Turbo S remain unclear but it remains a strong possibility that both models will adopt some form of hybridization. Adding fuel to the speculation of the hybridization of the 911 Turbo is that both of these prototypes hit the ‘Ring with yellow stickers on their rear windows, a marker often used to denote a hybrid powertrain under development.  

If the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S are hybrids, they probably won’t be plug-in hybrids and instead adopt a simpler hybrid system. Any hybrid system will no doubt be headlined by an updated version of the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder that we’ve come to know and love.
