Cryptic teasers are catnip for automakers and few can resist the urge to release them. The latest is Volkswagen, which appears to be teasing the return of the Rabbit.

That remains to be seen, but the brand took to social media yesterday to post a video of a white rabbit. The post was accompanied by a message saying, “Everyone likes cats. We like them, too. But today, we want to honor the rabbit – for good reason.”

Fast forward to today and Volkswagen said they’ve been “in the garage working on a very special vehicle.” The company said details will follow soon and a countdown suggests the mysterious vehicle will be unveiled in six days. That would be September 3, which is exactly one week after the initial teaser was released.

More: 2024 VW Golf Spied Inside and Out With Minimum Disguise

Volkswagen is staying tight-lipped, but a few possibilities spring to mind. While nothing is official, spy photographers caught a hotter Golf R undergoing testing last fall. It was equipped with canards and sources would only say the company was testing a “special” car.

That’s the same term used in today’s teaser, but we wouldn’t read too much into that. It’s also worth noting, Volkswagen has already confirmed a GTI 380 package is coming for 2024.

While a special edition seems like the most likely candidate, Volkswagen is putting the finishing touches on the facelifted Golf. Numerous prototypes have been spied virtually undisguised and the updated model has an evolutionary front bumper as well as slimmer headlights.

The changes continue in the cabin with a larger, free-standing display that could measure 15-inches. Prototypes have also been spied with a revised steering wheel that has physical switchgear.
