Volkswagen used the Munich Motor Show to introduce the ID. GTI Concept and now spy shooters have caught the ID.3 GTX.
Previewed by the ID.X Concept, the hot hatch is slated to debut later this year and be based on the facelifted ID.3 that was introduced in February.
Despite its performance focus, the ID.3 GTX looks fairly conservative. That being said, the model has a few telltale signs including a sportier front bumper and a unique mesh intake.

Moving further back, we can see aerodynamically optimized wheels and what appears to be a reduced ride height. The model also has a lightly revised rear end with a sporty diffuser.

Volkswagen has been coy on specifics, but the model is expected to follow in the footsteps of the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX. As a result, we can expect a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing a combined output of 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 339 lb-ft (460 Nm) of torque.
That’s slightly less than the ID.X, which had two electric motors pumping out 329 hp (245 kW / 333 PS). They enabled the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds, which effectively split the difference between the Golf GTI and Golf R.
Regardless of the final numbers, the GTX should offer significantly more performance than the standard ID.3, which has a rear-mounted motor developing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in as little as 7.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h).
Putting the powertrain aside, we can expect a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment system. We also wouldn’t be surprised to find a handful of special touches such as red and black accents.
