Seven years have passed since Volkswagen unveiled the redesigned Crafter, but it appears an update is in the works.
While the exterior is as boxy as ever, the cabin has been extensively updated. The changes are immediately apparent as drivers sit behind a new steering wheel and find themselves looking at a digital instrument cluster instead of analog gauges.
Speaking of screens, there’s a new infotainment system with a larger display as well as touch sliders. We can also see familiar switchgear and a lightly revised dashboard.

Those are notable upgrades and they should make the van feel far more modern. Speaking of which, it’s possible the model could be equipped with new and improved driver assistance technology.
Since this is an early prototype, the production model may have more extensive updates. That remains to be seen, but the van might wear new bumpers and updated lighting units.
Engine updates are also shrouded in secrecy, but a redesigned Crafter is likely only a few years away. This suggests changes will be fairly limited and mainly focused on reducing emissions as well as improving performance. However, we can expect to learn more closer to a possible unveiling next year.
