The glistening aluminum body of an Airstream is a sight to behold, but you can now expect to see them off the beaten path as the company is reviving the Trade Wind as a boondocking-focused travel trailer.
Set to slot between the International and Globetrotter, the 2024 Trade Wind is a 25-foot (7.6 meter) trailer that is designed for use off-grid and away from traditional campsites. As a result, the model borrows some cues from the Basecamp and comes equipped with a 3-inch (76 mm) lift as well as 29-inch Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse tires.
Once firmly in the great outdoors, you’ll be thankful for the three chassis-mounted Battle Born lithium batteries that work together to form an 810Ah battery bank. That’s four times the capacity of other Airstream travel trailers and it will enable owners to stay off-grid for longer.

The batteries are only part of the equation as the Trade Wind has been equipped with an array of solar panels that can generate 600 watts of power. That’s roughly twice the capacity of other Airstreams and it means the trailer will slowly charge the batteries throughout the day.
Owners can monitor the battery via a color display and adjust their usage to maximize their time outdoors. Airstream officials also told us that every outlet in the trailer can run off the battery bank, which means you’re not limited to just one or two.
Speaking of power, the Trade Wind has a 30 amp shore power inlet that can be used to provide juice to the trailer when on-grid. When connected, the battery bank is also recharged so it’s ready for your next off-grid adventure.
A Roomy Interior That Sleeps Five
Moving inside, there’s a spacious lounge area with a TV and a table. The latter is located next to the available rear hatch door, which opens up and has a sliding screen to prevent bugs from joining you and your morning coffee.
Midway through, there are sizeable windows and a kitchen with a sink, stove, and fridge. They’re joined by cabinets with heavy-duty latching to prevent doors from opening when traveling over rough terrain.
Sticking in the kitchen, customers can get an optional convection microwave with an air fryer. That isn’t the only nice touch as the Trade Wind has an upgraded 3000-watt inverter/charger and that means owners can run the microwave and air conditioner simultaneously. Speaking of which, the air conditioner can run off the battery and there’s also a furnace for camping in colder climates.
Continuing towards the front, there’s a shower and bathroom. The latter can be equipped with an optional composting toilet that helps to reduce water use to extend your stay off-grid.
That brings us to the bedroom, which boasts panoramic views as well as a queen bed or optional twin beds. Combined with the convertible dinette in the back, the trailer can sleep up to five people.

The Trade Wind is currently available to purchase and pricing starts at $129,400. That’s the same price as the Globetrotter, although that particular model sleeps up to six people and is available in a variety of configurations.
