In a new video, a Kia EV5 test is spotted parked on the side of the road in Korea, where it can be scrutinized and pored over in the real world

While the production version of the Kia EV5 has been unveiled in China, our prior exposure has been limited to static studio photos. Now, we have the opportunity to observe the electric crossover in real-world conditions, alongside other vehicles and a person.
Filmed on the road in Korea, the video takes a very thorough look at the design of the EV5 without any camouflage, albeit in pre-production spec. As before, it is notable how similar to the concept version of the crossover the production version will be.
And that’s a good thing. The appealing concept has made for an attractive vehicle despite its minimal, minor differences. For instance, this version features 19-inch four-spoke rims, rather than the concept’s three-spoke wheels. It also has full size mirrors, rather than thinner cameras, among other small changes. The host also shows the progressive turn signals in actions.

The video gives viewers a good sense of the size of the EV5, which looks relatively compact next to the host. That makes sense, as we know that the vehicle will measure in at 4,615 mm (181.7 inches) long and will have a 2,750 mm (108.3 inches) wheelbase, meaning that it will be pretty similar to the Kia Sportage and the Tesla Model Y in terms of size.
While it’s not quite clear what this vehicle is doing parked on the road, the host of the video calls it a pre-production test vehicle. That’s a good thing, because panel gaps around the doors and in some other areas leave some precision to be desired. Kia will likely sort all of that out before the EV5 goes on sale, though.
Although we know that the model will be based on the E-GMP architecture, Kia has not yet announced powertrains for most markets. However, in China, buyers will be offered a single-motor that sends 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels. We would expect different options to be offered in Korea and other markets.
Set to go on sale in China later this year, more information about the Korean version is expected in October, and details about the model’s specifications are expected at a later date.
