A brand-new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 sustained significant damage when it fell off a lift during a pre-delivery inspection at a dealership in the US. The entire incident was captured on video by a surveillance camera – and of course, made it on the internet. Remarkably, this marks the third known case of a C8 Corvette being involved in an incident with a lift, indicating that this is not an isolated occurrence.
The hot red Corvette was positioned on the lift when the rear end suddenly began to tilt, resulting in an unfortunate and costly mishap. The lift arm pierced through the bodywork of the sports car, causing extensive damage to the side skirt, door, rear quarter panel, and side window.
Adding to the unfortunate turn of events, the Corvette landed on its rear bumper, and the subsequent sliding motion further exacerbated the damage to both the bodywork and the underbody.

The footage was shared on YouTube by Jason Grubb, garnering plenty of comments. While it lacks sound, it’s easy to imagine that the audio would have been distressing. The only silver lining in this incident is that no injuries were reported, as the service area was devoid of people at the time of the accident.
Given the extent of the fall, it’s highly likely that this incident has resulted in another Corvette being declared as totaled. The unlucky owner, who reportedly hadn’t yet taken delivery of the C8 before the accident, will now be faced with the additional frustration of having to wait for a new one.
It’s happened before, at least twice
For those closely following the news, it may be recalled that previous instances involving C8 Corvettes falling off lifts include a red one in May 2020 and a blue Stingray in March 2021. So, what is causing these sports cars to slide off the lifts? According to discussions on owners’ forums, the problem appears to stem from the improper positioning of the lift arms, coupled with the weight distribution of the mid-engined sports car.
As reported by CorvetteBlogger, this problem has become widespread enough that certain owners have proactively taken steps to address it. For instance, they have installed bright red anodized jacking pucks to clearly indicate where the lift arm should be placed when working on the car. In any case, individuals working at GM service centers should know better.
