The S650 Mustang driver claims that during the collision with a Challenger in Ohio, his rifle struck him in the face

Deliveries of the 2024 Mustang only started a few weeks back, but the all-new S650 has wasted no time in making its debut the hall of shame that is the website of salvage auctioneers Copart.
This isn’t the first wrecked 2024 we’ve seen. Last week we reported on a blue Mustang coupe that was running some interesting rear toe-out angles after spinning into a median curb in a residential area. But these latest images are the first shots we’ve come across of an S650 in a salvage yard, and it’s in way worse shape.
A V8-powered Mustang GT coupe, it has covered only 735 miles (1,183 km), and it looks like the odometer might be stuck there until kingdom come, because the door, sill, front fender and floorpan have all been pushed sharply inwards. There’s also some secondary damage to the front end, including the hood, and the rear quarter panel has also wrinkled.

Given the Mustang’s reputation for wrecking, it’s almost a surprise to learn that the damage wasn’t caused by the Ford owner’s ham-fisted driving, but by that other Copart regular, a Dodge Challenger. We know this because the owner, who was driving at the time of the accident, dropped a post in an S650 Facebook group explaining what had happened to satisfy the curiosity of other fans who were already taking about the car having spotted it on the salvage site.
The Mustang driver says he was crossing an intersection at 2am when a Challenger, possibly a Hellcat, plowed into his driver’s door, totaling the car. Incredibly, the owner says he is generally okay, though understandably he mentions that his legs “were beat to hell,” and also claims he took a hit to the face from a rifle he had in the car at the time. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
As you’d expect the owner is gutted about losing his car and has already put in an order for a replacement. No word on what happened to the Challenger, but looking at the damage it did to the Mustang in this accident it’s probably going to be reunited with the Ford at the Northfield Copart yard very soon.
