Morgan is back in the United States. While their four-wheeled offerings are kept off the market thanks to safety regulations (for now), fans of the charming marque can now pick up a three-wheeled equivalent, with the Morgan Super 3 making its stateside debut.

The Morgan Super 3 is a lightweight three-wheeler powered by a 1.5-liter Ford engine that sends power to its single rear wheel via a five-speed Mazda MX-5 gearbox. It lacks its predecessor’s iconic S&S vee-twin engine – blame emissions regulations for killing that one off. But, having driven the European version last year, we think the Ford lump still manages to provide a chunk of character to the whole experience.

The U.S. version of the Super 3 made its debut at The Bridge VII, an annual invitation-only automotive event hosted by watchmaker Richard Mille. The two cars on display were specially commissioned to demonstrate the customizability of the model.

The first, finished in Ice Green Metallic, featured matching Cotswold leather and a set of unique graphics adorning its fuselage-like body. The second car on display featured Reflex Silver paintwork and the same leather, but this time with orange accents. And, serving as proof that oversized auxiliary lights work on just about anything, it features additional driving lights. Finishing off the exterior treatment are the exo-racks with color-coordinated orange bungees.

To keep the U.S. safety inspectors at bay, the Morgan Super 3 is technically homologated as a motorcycle. Whereas the headlights sit on stalks for the Euro version, on the U.S. model, they’re housed within the body. Morgan has also modified the taillights and turn signals and added reflectors to make sure the Super 3 complies with legislation.

Speaking of legislation, Morgan is planning to reintroduce its line of four-wheeled offerings to the U.S. market from next year. The company already has 12 dealerships in the U.S., while a modified version of the BMW 2.0-liter-powered Plus Four is likely on the cards for an introduction.

In the meantime, the Super 3 can be picked up from a starting price of $53,937.
