One of just 25 Porsche 911 models confirmed to 400R specification by Gunther Werks is up for auction and could sell for upwards of $1.5 million. What do you get for your money?

Well, this Gunther Werks 400R is the first of 25 examples produced by the Californian company. It is known as the ‘Chelsea Grey Commission’ and was first unveiled in 2018 before returning to Gunther Werks in 2022 to have the interior updated, the rear suspension improved, a hydraulic lift system installed, and an improved sound system fitted. It is being sold on Bring a Trailer with a clean Montana title and has an accident-free Carfax report.

In transforming a standard 993 into a 400R, Gunther Werks replaced all of the body panels with lightweight carbon fiber that includes flared wheel arches and new front and rear ends. The Chelsea Grey Commission is a Sport Touring variant and has a pronounced ducktail spoiler as opposed to a towering rear wing like some other 400R models. Complementing the Chelsea Grey paint are ghosted side stripes with red Porsche lettering and the entire body has been wrapped in clear paint protection film to keep it looking fresh.

The car is also sitting on a set of staggered-width 18-inch forged aluminum wheels with a bronze finish and wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires. Gunther Werks has also fitted new Brembo six-piston brake calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear, clamping down on ventilated carbon-ceramic discs.

The cabin is a true work of art. The carbon fiber bucket seats, transmission tunnel, lower dashboard, and door panels are clad in red leather and there are also plenty of carbon fiber elements. An Alcantara headliner rounds things off.

Like all other 400R models from Gunther Werks, the car is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder from Rothsport Racing and coupled to a Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.

The Chelsea Grey Commission has been driven just 2,400 miles (3,862 km). While that is more than the 50 miles covered by another 400R from Gunther Werks that was sold for $1.5 million in August, it’s still nothing in the grand scheme of things.
