Next year is shaping up to be a busy one for Mini. Not only will it be rolling out the first production examples of the new electric Mini Cooper hatch and Countryman EV, but it also has to launch the Aceman EV crossover and revised versions of the current combustion two-door Minis to sit alongside them all, including the 2025 Mini Convertible seen here.

We’ve already spied, or been formally introduced to, every body style of the new Mini lineup with the exception of the cabrio, so these images help us complete the set and confirm that the Convertible will live on with combustion power, and not only as an EV. The combination of wheels, brakes, and central exhaust tailpipe lead us to think it’s at the very least the Cooper S and perhaps even the John Cooper Works (JCW) performance flagship.

Though they’ll look broadly similar, being both easily recognizable as Minis, the ICE and EV Minis are totally different under the skin. The electric cars ride on an all-new dedicated electric platform and have cleaner styling that features flush door handles and dispenses with stick-on arch trims, but we can clearly see the older-style handles and arch trims on this petrol car.

A glimpse of the interior proves that there will be some major similarities however, most obviously the smart new circular OLED touchscreen infotainment system that sits on the top of the dash of the EV BMW revealed in early September. Even the exterior of the ICE Mini will pick up some new tricks from its electric brother, like the arrow-shape taillight graphics. It will also make an attempt at cleaning up its exterior lines by junking the air intake in the middle of the hood, something that has been a Cooper S feature for 20 years.

We’re not expecting any radical changes under the hood of the refreshed combustion Minis, though, with perhaps the exception of them gaining mild hybrid assistance. The current 1.5-liter three-cylinder produces 134 hp (136 PS), while the 2.0-liter four-cylinder develops 189 hp (192 PS) in S tune and 228 hp (231 PS) as a JCW, but don’t be surprised to see both engines add a few horses to their stables. The Mini Convertible is likely to make its debut during 2024 and be available for the 2025 model year.
