What with all those orange cones and guys in high-viz jackets, construction zones tend to be quite clear in telegraphing the point to drivers that they are no-go zones. But one Tesla driver decided to go anyway, and soon couldn’t go anywhere when his Model 3 sank to its floorpan in wet cement.

The accident was captured on video from another vehicle located behind the Tesla, and while the recording doesn’t show where the driver came from or how he ended up in the gloop, it looks like he might have been attempting to cross what would normally be the centerline of the road to enter a street to the left.

He certainly didn’t get very far because the center of the road consisted of a trough of freshly laid cement that appears to measure around 12 ft (3.7 m) across and and at least 40 ft (12.2 mm) long. The Model 3’s passenger side rear wheel is still on the dry asphalt, but the other three tires are in the cement and the front pair have sunk so deep the mess is almost up to their wheel nuts.

The driver’s attempts to extract himself from the trough come to nought, and to compound his misery, one of the roadworkers right in front of him is blatantly filming the saga on his cellphone. Other workers visible in the background, looking slightly bemused, carry on smoothing out the undisturbed concrete further along the road, but you can imagine that they’re as annoyed as the Tesla driver is because they’re the ones who’ll have to make it right.

But fixing the Tesla-shaped hole left in the road when the Model is eventually extracted is likely to be less expensive than repairing the Tesla itself unless it gets out quickly and hoses off all that cement.
