Way back in the heady days of 2019, Volkswagen showed off the Atlas Basecamp concept, a rugged, off-road-ready version of its big SUV at the New York Auto Show. In 2020, it brought many of the ideas proposed by the concept to reality with the Basecamp accessories package. Now, it will finally offer those accessories for the more stylish Atlas Cross Sport.

Available as a series of individual accessories, or as an entire appearance package, the Basecamp kit offers a front valence, rear valence, side door skid plate, and fender flares. In addition, custom, 17-inch, fifteen52 Traverse MX wheels are offered as part of the kit to give the SUVs more off-road style.

The body kit is produced by Air Design, and for the front valence brings two-tone, textured black and silver satin finishes to the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. Meanwhile, the wheel arches get a matte black finish, as well as integrated splash guards to help when the going gets muddy.

Volkswagen Now Offers Baseline Accessories On The Atlas Cross Sport

The side door rocker panels and the rear valance are both finished in satin silver. The rear section is also designed to include hitch access, meaning that the package is not recommended for models without one. VW adds that the kit is not compatible with the R-Line and Peak Edition trim levels of the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport.

If buyers opt for the full kit, it also comes with special quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges. Oddly, that’s only for the Atlas, to which the package adds $2,650, not the Atlas Cross Sport, to which it adds $2,774.

Individually, the front valance costs $680, the rear valance costs $680, the side door skid plates cost $769, and the fender flares cost $645. Meanwhile, the fifteen52 wheels (available in Frosted Graphite or Radiant Silver) cost $315 each, and VW recommends that they be fitted with 245/70R17 all-terrain tires for the correct right off-road look.

“As consumers and dealers continue to seek SUVs with rugged appearance characteristics, we will continue to offer accessory options that allow them to further personalize their Volkswagen SUV,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America. “It made sense to expand the line to include Atlas Cross Sport alongside Atlas and the Taos Basecamp styling program.”
