The new generation of the Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great will debut on October 25 in Tokyo

Daimler-owned Mitsubishi Fuso is ready to unveil a prototype of the new generation Super Great heavy-duty truck at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 on October 25. Following the example of most automakers, the truck manufacturer started a teaser campaign, revealing bits of the upcoming model’s futuristic design.
The Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great was introduced in 1996 as the flagship offering of the company. The current generation debuted in 2017 and was upgraded with Level 2 ADAS in 2021. While the shots are purposely dark, the new heavy-duty truck looks like a significant departure from the styling of its predecessor.

The teasers reveal the slimmer and lower-positioned LED headlights alongside a cleaner design for the grille which now covers the entire width of the cab. The Fuso lettering is integrated into the black trim with the Mitsubishi emblem sitting above it. The windshield and asymmetric mirrors look nearly identical to the outgoing Super Great, while the aerodynamic extension on the roof appears to be redesigned and better integrated with the rest of the bodywork.
We don’t have any information on the powertrains, but the current model is available in Japan with either the 6S10 7.7-liter engine producing 376 hp (280 kW / 381 PS), or the 6R20 10.7-liter engine producing 454 hp (338 kW / 460 PS). Both inline-six cylinder mills feature turbochargers and intercoolers, alongside a Stop&Start system.
Earlier this year it was announced that Daimler’s Mitsubishi Fuso Truck will be merging with Toyota’s Hino Motors, with the two companies unifying their efforts in commercial vehicle development, procurement, and production. The deal will be finalized by the end of 2024, while the name and corporate structure of the new entity will be announced closer to that time.
