This December, Nissan is celebrating its 90th anniversary, and they have some plans to commemorate this milestone. However, they believe that traditional history lessons and videos can be a bit boring. Instead, they’ve set their sights on creating a tangible object that will allow everyone to embrace the automaker’s rich history.

The object Nissan came up with is a BE@RBRICK figuring emblazoned with its logo and the number 90 on the back. Sold as a pair, the toys are 2.7 inches (70 mm) and 11 inches (280 mm) tall, respectively. That makes the smaller bear a little over an inch taller than a LEGO figurine, and the larger figurine just a little shorter than the average nutcracker soldier figure.

Nissan’s creative idea takes the form of a BE@RBRICK figurine adorned with its logo and the number 90 on the back. These figurines are available as a pair, with one measuring 2.7 inches (70 mm) and the other standing at 11 inches (280 mm) in height. That makes the smaller bear a little over an inch taller than a LEGO figurine, while the larger one is slightly shorter than the typical nutcracker soldier figure.

While it is undeniably cute, at this point, you may be asking yourself precisely what a BE@RBRICK is. Created in 2001 by Medicom Toy in Japan, it was invented to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original teddy bear.

Over the ensuing 20 years, it has gone from being a toy to being a collectible objet d’art for many buyers. With fans around the world, the BE@RBRICK never changes its shape, it only ever alters the paint on its exterior. Medicom Toy has finished the bear with liveries celebrating famous artists like Keith Haring, shows like Pokemon, and musicians like the Grateful Dead.

Now, Nissan is the latest to be celebrated, and for its paint job, it decided to go with Sunrise Copper on the legs, arms, and head. Inspired by the paint finish on EVs like the Ariya, the color immediately elicits the automaker.

On the torso, it features Nissan’s new logo, against a black background. In addition, the bear features a Kumiko pattern, which “evokes the beauty of Japan’s DNA, which has been passed down through time”. Finally, on its arm, a cherry blossom is the final touch.

Nissan says that sales of its BE@RBRICK figurines will start in mid-November, but you can pre-order one right now. The toy maker is charging a rather surprising ¥17,600 ($117 USD at current exchange rates), but you do get both a big and a small one for that price.
