A limited-run racing version of the Saleen S1 has been listed for auction in the U.S. and is certainly a very cool option for those looking for a dedicated track car unlike any other.

The sexy Saleen S1 was unveiled in late 2017 as a compelling new mid-engined sports car from the small car manufacturer. As far as we can tell, production of the road-going version never came to fruition but Saleen did build a number of race cars with its Chinese joint venture partner for a one-make racing series. This series was apparently scrapped after a single round, leaving approximately 20 cars without a championship to compete in.

This particular S1 Cup being sold by Cars & Bids is outfitted with a 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is good for 450 hp and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque. The engine is coupled to a six-speed sequential transmission from Holinger Engineering driving the rear wheels. Of equal importance to the engine and transmission combo of a track car is the suspension and the S1 Cup is also well-equipped on that front, fitted with adjustable Ohlins shocks at all four corners. It also has large six-piston brake calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

A Rare Saleen S1 Cup Needs A New Home On The Track

Immediately making the Saleen catch the eye is a Marlboro-inspired red and white racing livery and a handful of aerodynamic upgrades not seen on the road car prototype presented back in 2017. This includes a distinctive front splitter, a large rear wing, and a more pronounced rear diffuser.

Like any good race car, the cabin is free of anything other than the bare essentials and rocks a Sparco Circuit II bucket seat, a multi-function steering wheel, and an integrated fire suppression system. It also has a full roll cage, a six-point harness, and a race-ready fuel cell.
