Acura has unveiled the facelifted TLX and TLX Type S. However, you’d be hard-pressed to tell as the luxury brand largely phoned it in.

That’s most apparent outside, where the car has a lightly revised grille and not much else. While you’ll probably need to look at side-by-side pictures to notice the differences, the grille has a frameless design as well as a new diamond mesh pattern. Elsewhere, Acura replaced the previous 18-inch wheels with larger 19-inchers that have a machined finish.

The laissez faire attitude extends to the TLX A-Spec, which has new split-spoke wheels, although they still measure 19 inches and retain a Shark Gray finish. Buyers will also find a revised gloss-black rear spoiler.

The changes to the TLX Type S are also minor, but include a sportier grille that promises to provide more airflow to the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Buyers will also find new 20-inch wheels, which trade their Shark Gray finish for a Berlina Black one.

On top of that, there are two new exterior colors. Liquid Carbon Metallic is added to the TLX, while Urban Gray Pearl is available on the A-Spec and Type S.

New Displays And Additional Equipment

While the exterior styling changes are barely worth mentioning, the cabin is home to an assortment of upgrades. Drivers sit behind a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and it’s joined by a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system with a faster processor. Unfortunately, the latter appears to stick with the awkward True Touchpad Interface.

Putting displays aside, the Technology Package now comes standard and this means the entry-level TLX sports Milano leather seats, an ambient lighting system, and an ELS Studio audio system. Buyers will also find a newly standard wireless smartphone charger.

The TLX Type S builds on that with a head-up display and a surround view camera system with a higher resolution. The aforementioned digital instrument cluster also has a unique Sport+ setting, which highlights performance details.

Additional changes are limited, but engineers focused on quieting the cabin. As part of this effort, the TLX A-Spec has acoustic front side glass, new front fender liners, thicker carpeting, and additional insulation in key locations. On top of that, the Active Sound Control system has been “enhanced to further cancel exterior sounds from polluting the interior ambiance.”

On the safety front, the camera and millimeter-wave radar have wider fields of view. Acura says the “significantly widened detection angles improve collision prevention performance via improved ability to recognize attributes of objects … as well as white lines and road boundaries like curbs and road signs.”

The 2024 TLX also gains a new rear seatbelt reminder and an improved blind spot information system. The latter can now detect objects up to 82 feet (25 meters) away.

Familiar Powertrains, But A-Spec Now Comes Standard With AWD

Under the hood, there’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder pumping out 272 hp (203 kW / 276 PS) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a familiar ten-speed automatic transmission, but it’s now paired to a standard all-wheel drive system on the TLX A-Spec.

The TLX Type S has a turbocharged V6 with 355 hp (265 kW / 359 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. It’s paired to a sport-tuned ten-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system.

The 2024 TLX and TLX Type S will arrive at dealerships late this month, and we can expect to learn pricing shortly.
