Many automotive enthusiasts bemoan the vast majority of laws that restrict their ability to drive as they’d like. Ultimately though, many laws (but not all) exist in an effort to improve safety on the road. If it were up to you, what law would you enact or change and why? That’s today’s question of the day.

Across the world, new laws pop up, get crushed, or get changed all of the time. These laws may pertain to the driver, the passengers, or the vehicle itself. Is there a specific aspect of vehicle-related legislation that you believe is the most crucial to address and reform?

One recent story we covered included a man who allegedly received no less than 19 citations surrounding a lack of driver’s license, insurance, and registration. He would later be involved in a fatal crash with a cyclist while reportedly driving illegally. In that case, many have called for harsher penalties for those who are repeat offenders of certain laws.

What Driving Law Would You Change Or Enact?

Perhaps your idea of the most important law actually applies to the most dangerous of vehicles on the road. Big rigs are responsible for a number of fatal accidents each year. Some have suggested that trailer tractors should only be allowed to travel in the right-most lane.

Not only would that make it easier to pass them and get away from close contact but it would end the elephant races so many complain about. It would also force some road users to learn to merge properly.

If I could make a single change, it would involve raising the bar for obtaining a driver’s license, ensuring that only truly qualified individuals can get behind the wheel, even if that means a significantly lower number of eligible drivers in the future. This could potentially lead to various benefits, including improved driver skills, the possibility of increased speed limits, and a boost in the usage of public transportation.
