Ford CEO Jim Farley has been hinting at additional Maverick variants for over a year, but we haven’t seen much besides the Tremor. That’s about to change as spy photographers have snapped a new street-focused variant in Michigan.
Expected to be called the Maverick Lobo, the truck immediately stands out thanks to a sportier stance and larger 19-inch wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT tires. The latter are designed to provide a “smooth and quiet ride with responsive handling.”

Additional details are hard to make out, but the camouflage suggests the truck will be equipped with a sportier front fascia and, perhaps, a revised grille. The rear end is also disguised, but it’s similar to the current model aside from the exhaust.
That being said, spy photographers noted the rear suspension setup suggests this particular prototype has all-wheel drive. They also stated there are “signs of an intercooler in the front bumper’s lower air intake suggesting a more potent turbocharged powerplant.” However, that might be wishful thinking as the revised bumper could be making more of the intercooler visible, thereby making it appear larger.
Regardless, the current turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder has 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 277 lb-ft (375 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system for an extra $2,220.
