Scooters typically don’t offer the visual excitement of superbikes, but there are exceptions where design really makes a difference. A prime example is the Vmoto APD Concept, which made its debut at the EICMA Show in Italy, immediately capturing our interest with its futuristic and aerodynamic styling crafted by Pininfarina.

Vmoto is an electric motorcycle maker from Perth, Australia, although its production facilities are located in Nanjing, China. For its latest project, the company partnered with the fabled Italian design house Pininfarina and the result speaks for itself. Following a “vision” study that debuted in last year’s EICMA show, the new concept “prefigures” a production model that will join Vmoto’s range “in the near future”.

Pininfarina-Designed Vmoto APD Challenges BMW CE 04 With Electric Maxi-Scooter Prowess

The Vmoto APD Concept is one of the coolest electric scooters we have seen, bringing competition to the eye-catching BMW CE 04. The two-wheeler is classified as a “maxi scooter”, which explains its generously sized saddle and optional storage compartments. The exterior was designed with a focus on aerodynamics, benefiting from Pininfarina’s wind tunnel.

The sharp lines, thin LEDs, “interweaving” surfaces, and multi-color approach on the scooter’s bodywork send strong sci-fi vibes without looking too much out of this world. The “Kammback” tail is probably the most eye-catching feature with the curved LED taillight being a retro-futuristic touch. Another cool feature is the bespoke bag that serves as an extension of the saddle, offering usable space for storing personal items in addition to the larger and removable rear compartment.

Vmoto didn’t announce the specifications of the electric powertrain of the scooter, preserving that for the debut of the production version which could happen in 2024. As with the rest of the Vmoto lineup, the APD will most likely be produced in China.

Visitors of the EICMA 2023 in Milan, will be able to check out the Vmoto APD Concept in person between November 9 and 12.
