The restomod business is booming, especially for air-cooled Porsche 911s. Oxfordshire-based Theon Design presented its second UK commission, improving every single aspect of a lucky 964.

The GBR002 started life as a 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 2. The car was taken back to “bare metal” for the restoration which included strengthening the chassis. The entire bodywork is made of carbon fiber, except the steel doors. This allows the GR002 to weigh 1,169 kg (2,577 lbs), 200 kg (441 lbs) less than the 964 it is based on. At the same time, the tasteful OEM-style styling tweaks enhance the timeless look, making the 964 look more like the original 911.

The owner of this particular example opted for a gorgeous Oak Green Metallic, combined with dark “ghost” stripes and warm satin chrome accents. The model rides on 18-inch Fuchs-style wheels, hiding the modern brakes courtesy of the RS brake package. Theon Design has also installed a set of five-stage active dampers by TracTive.

The GRB002 is powered by a naturally aspirated air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-six engine producing 406 hp (303 kW / 412 PS) and 326 lb-ft (442 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a Hewland six-speed manual gearbox with the help of a Wavetrac Torsen limited-slip differential. The sound experience has also been enhanced thanks to a “switchable” exhaust with ceramic coating by Zircotec.

The interior spec is as cool as the exterior, with a generous amount of billet aluminum for the switchgear, Recaro CS seats, and a Nardi “deep dish” steering wheel. The upholstery combines Muslin leather with woven Alcantara/leather panels. The vintage-looking Bluetooth multimedia system is connected to a premium 6-speaker audio system with a Focal amplifier.

Theon Design didn’t reveal the cost of this particular example; however, its commissions start at £380,000 ($480,200), not including the cost of the donor car, shipping, and local taxes. Each project takes 18 months to finish, with every car built to the exact specs of the lucky owner.
