Chevrolet has unveiled the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban, ahead of their launch late next year.
The facelifted SUVs benefit from a host of changes that extend beyond the usual styling tweaks. These include powertrain updates, an improved interior, and new safety features.
A Fresh, But Familiar Face

The Tahoe and Suburban have aged rather gracefully, but the 2025 models have a new look that incorporates cues from the Silverado HD. The daytime running lights are clearly inspired by the pickup, while Chevrolet noted the models have animated turn signals as well as welcome and goodbye animations on higher-end variants.

Those aren’t the only new lights as the models have smaller headlights that are now mid-mounted. They’re joined by a revised grille and a new front bumper.
Moving further back, the SUVs offer newly available 24-inch wheels for a “stronger, more planted stance.” Customers will also find modernized taillights and an updated color palette that includes Cypress Gray as well as Lakeshore Blue Metallic.
A Significantly Improved Interior With A New 17.7-Inch Display

During our review of the Tahoe RST Performance Edition, we noted the model was starting to show its age thanks to a small 10.2-inch infotainment system, an oddball shifter, and a dash-mounted cubby.
Chevrolet has addressed those complaints with an all-new interior that is classy and high-tech. A 17.7-inch infotainment system takes center stage and appears to be shared with the redesigned Traverse. It’s joined by a smaller, but more modern 11-inch digital instrument cluster.
The changes extend far beyond displays as the SUVs gain a new dashboard that features clean lines and updated air vents. Chevrolet also noted the instrument panel has been lowered to help things feel more airy and open.
The dash is accompanied by a sleeker steering wheel and a minimalist center stack, which features new switchgear. Further below, there’s a redesigned center console with “new storage options and a repositioned, more convenient wireless charging pad.”
Higher-end variants up the ante and the range-topping High Country is notable for featuring authentic wood trim. That’s a first for the Tahoe and Suburban, and the company noted the luxurious variant also has a two-tone cabin with a unique steering wheel and “wingtip perforated leather seating surfaces.”
A More Powerful Diesel Engine With 305 HP

Under the hood, there’s a second-generation 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six. It produces 305 hp (227 kW / 309 PS) and 495 lb-ft (670 Nm) of torque, which is a sizable improvement over the current engine that packs 277 hp (207 kW / 281 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm).
The upgrades to the engine are pretty extensive and include new pistons, higher-flow fuel injectors, a retuned turbo compressor, and revised piston-cooling oil jets. There’s also a revised air induction system and new sound absorption materials to reduce noise and improve refinement.
The diesel engine won’t be available at launch, but it will arrive sometime in 2025. That’s slight disappointing, but at least the engine will be available on the Z71 for the first time.
Customers looking for something more traditional can opt for familiar 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8s. Chevrolet didn’t say much about them, so they presumably continue to have outputs of 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS).
Improved Driving Experience And New Safety Tech
Besides the powertrain updates, Chevrolet returned the multilink rear suspension to deliver “more refined ride-and-handling dynamics.” Engineers also fiddled with the steering to allow for a “confident drive experience across conditions.”
That’s vague, but chief engineer Martin Hayes said “The already excellent ride-and-handling characteristics enabled by the independent rear suspension are taken to the next level with the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban. Their responsiveness makes them feel much nimbler than their full-size dimensions suggest.”
Furthermore, an Air Ride Adaptive Suspension will be offered on RST variants for the first time. Customers can also get Magnetic Ride Control and Super Cruise.
On the safety front, there’s a suite of familiar systems that include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. They’re by Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, and an HD Surround Vision system.
Buyers will also find an all-new Interior Motion Detection system, which is new for the GM. It uses a new sensor that can “detect certain types of micro-movements in the cabin.” It’s effectively a rear seat reminder on steroids as the system will “progressively escalate alerts” after the vehicle is in park and the ignition is turned off. This is designed to save lives as far too many children are killed after their parents accidently forget them in the vehicle on hot days.
Another new feature is an available Connected Cameras system, which enables customers to remotely view interior and exterior footage. This enables Live View and Security Recording functionality, but the system also acts as a dash cam and has an automatic crash recording function.
