Hyundai is working on a redesigned Palisade and while most details about it remain shrouded in mystery, the brand’s vice president of product planning has indicated that it will look dramatically different than the current model.

The styling of Hyundai’s new models has taken on a bold and aggressive approach in recent years and this culminated with the launch of the latest-generation Santa Fe. The new SUV looks nothing like its predecessors, adopting a far boxier shape that has already stirred up plenty of controversy.

During a recent interview at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai’s product planning VP Olabisi Boyle confirmed a radical redesign of the Palisade is in the works and that it should look quite a lot different than the Santa Fe.

“We’re also redesigning the Palisade,” she told Car Buzz. “I think you will be very excited. We want to take the things that they like to the next level. I’m excited for when it comes, but I have to keep myself from saying too much.”

Boyle suggested that the visual changes made to the next-gen Palisade will be equally as dramatic as those to the new Hyundai Santa Fe. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for the first Palisade prototypes to hit the streets before we get an indication of the new design. Boyle didn’t provide a timeline as to when the new three-row SUV will launch but it’s only been 18 months since the current model was given a significant facelift so the next model is probably at least two years away.

While speaking with our colleagues about the new Santa Fe, Boyle expressed confidence in how shoppers will respond to the radical new design.

“I think we’re going to please current customers. And I think we’re going to conquest new customers,” she said. “We did research. We wanted an SUV built for America built in America. It has a more muscular stance, which tends to be a little bit more boxy – more in line with what I think Americans expect of an SUV.”
