Aussies love a large-capacity, naturally-aspirated engine, but those looking to pick up a 2024 Jeep Wrangler will have to settle for a boosted four-cylinder following confirmation the updated model will land on local shores from April next year.

The most significant change made to the 2024 Wrangler family is on the engine front. Whereas all current Wrangler models sold Down Under come outfitted with a 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 rated at 209 kW (280 hp) and 347 Nm (256 lb-ft), the updated version will be sold exclusively with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This new engine delivers 200 kW (268 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and despite being a smaller unit, Jeep has managed to retain the same 2,495 kg (5,500 lbs) towing capacity of the outgoing model.

Local buyers will be offered the new Wrangler in Sport S 4DR, Overland 4DR, and Rubicon 2DR and 4DR configurations. While pricing details have not yet been announced, we do know that all versions benefit from the same visual updates as the North American-spec model. This includes a refreshed seven-slot front grille and an antenna that has now been incorporated into the windshield. Customers can also choose between four new wheel designs.

Plenty of changes have also been made to the cabin of the refreshed Wrangler. The most significant is the fitment of a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Jeep has also incorporated an accessory rail on the dashboard for mounting smartphones and action cameras while also updating the gauge cluster. The entry-level Wrangler S also adds standard heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and ambient lighting while the Overland and Rubicon come with standard 12-way power seat up front.

Among the other standard features for the base model include 17-inch wheels and Nexen Roadian A/T tires. All 2024 Wrangler Overland models have been upgraded with 18-inch wheels and also include an anti-spin Dana M220 rear axle. As the Rubicon remains the most off-road-focused version, it adds Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, an electronic front sway bar disconnect, HD Dana 44 full-float rear axle, and a forward-facing TrailCam.

Jeep is expected to announce full pricing details early next year.
