It’s entirely possible that Stellantis is planning a new trim level for the Jeep brand

Is one of the various brands from within the Stellantis family planning to release a new model dubbed the Nighthawk? It’s certainly possible.
On November 30, the car manufacturer filed to trademark the name ‘Nighthawk’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “land vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles.” The application fails to mention which of the various Stellantis brands could use the name but it would be a logical choice for Jeep that currently sells Trailhawk versions of the Compass, Renegade, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee, and has previously sold the Grand Cherokee as a high-performance Trackhawk.
As always, the simple fact that Stellantis has filed to trademark such a name doesn’t mean it intends on releasing a vehicle dubbed the Nighthawk. However, we think it would be perfect for a specific trim level of a Jeep, perhaps one with black or darkened elements. The name could also suit a performance-focused version of something like the Grand Cherokee, perhaps created as a successor to the Hellcat-powered Trackhawk.

It’s also possible that the name could be applied to one of the impending battery-electric or plug-in hybrid Jeep models that are in the works, Motor Authority notes. One of the most compelling EVs being readied for the Jeep brand is the Recon, positioned as an electric alternative to the ever-popular Wrangler and built around the STLA Large EV platform.

Another compelling electric Jeep in the works is the Wagoneer S EV, previewed in concept guise alongside the Recon at a dealer event earlier this year. This model is based around the same platform as the Recon but has a much sleeker, road-oriented design and could hit the market with a 100 kWh battery pack and perhaps as much as 600 hp thanks to a pair of electric motors.
