You could hardly have designed a more high stakes scenario if you tried. A British woman and her infant were spared serious injury this weekend, after a Peugeot van slammed into a light pole, and almost turned over onto them.

Video of the incident, which occurred in Solihull, shows a woman on a sidewalk pushing a stroller towards a pedestrian crossing. She suddenly turns the stroller in an attempt to move it away from the road as a van enters the frame, clearly traveling quickly.

The mother’s instincts are good, as she prepares to push the stroller away from where the van is headed. However, no level of quick reflexes could have helped her, because the van collides with a lamp pole, turns 90 degrees, and rolls over onto the sidewalk where she’s standing.

Miraculously, although the woman and her child were taken to hospital, she was spared injury. Her child did need medical attention, but Birmingham Live reports that they only suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

While that’s undoubtedly traumatizing, it could have easily gone worse. The driver of the van was also reportedly taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She is aiding police with their investigation.

“The Peugeot driver, a woman in her 40s, suffered cuts and was spoken to at the scene by officers and is assisting with our inquiries,” police said in a statement. “The woman and the child were left shaken but not physically injured.”

It remains unclear what led to the accident, though the van appears to have been driving faster than other vehicles, and was on the wrong side of the road. Police said their investigation is ongoing.
