It appears increasingly unlikely that the TVR Griffith will ever see the light of day with news breaking that its ability to exclusively rent a factory at the Rassau Industrial Estate in Blaenau Gwent, Wales has lapsed, meaning the facility could be snapped up by someone else.
The former Techboard factory was purchased by the Welsh government in 2017 and was scheduled to be refurbished before being leased to TVR, providing it with a home to build the Griffith, itself unveiled back in 2017. However, during a recent meeting of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s Place scrutiny committee this week, it was revealed that the Welsh government has put the facility on the market.

“We haven’t had a definitive answer from Welsh Government,” corporate director for regeneration and community services Ellie Fry said when asked if the government had provided an update on TVR calling the site home. “But what they have said is that their (TVR’s) exclusive rights to be able to rent the Techboard building have now lapsed. They (TVR) could still rent it if they wanted to, but it will actually go to the market as well. They have not said anything about TVR and whether they have decided not to come or still want to come. The Welsh Government have just decided they will put the building on the market.”
Fry added that the borough has received several inquiries over the past six months for a building of the site’s size, South Wales Argus reports.
The new Griffith was scheduled to hit the market with a Ford-sourced V8 pumping out 500 hp but it has been hit with delays and delays and six years after its unveiling, production has still yet to commence. The last we heard from the brand was 18 months ago when it revealed that an all-electric version of the Griffith was also in the works. It has also apparently been eyeing up the idea of working on both a high-performance electric sedan and SUV. Whether or not any of these vehicles will see the light of day remains to be seen.
