The Tokyo Auto Salon kicks off next month and Nissan will be using the event to showcase three vehicles created by students from Nissan Technical Colleges in Japan.

The undisputed star is a bit of an oddball, but it’s a retro-inspired Cube called the Seto. It was designed by 4th year students taking the Mechanic & Customize Course in Kyoto.

Created to bridge the past and present, the one-off model features a unique front end that draws inspiration from the Datsun Bluebird. As a result, it has been equipped with a chrome bumper and a classic grille. The latter houses circular headlights, which use LEDs for a “contemporary feel.”

The changes continue further back as the front fenders have been modified for an old school appearance. The car has also been outfitted with Bluebird taillights and Nissan says it took six months to build.

Speaking of the past, 3rd year students taking the Mechanic & Car Body Master Course in Aichi made the Adonis Skyline. It was “created based on scenarios in which a young man with a good income and an active private life, the target demographic, would normally use such a car.”

Now that you’re done rolling your eyes, the Skyline has been boy racer-ified by a widebody kit that extends the car’s width by 2 inches (5 cm). The model has also been equipped with new wheels, a massive spoiler, and a custom paint job. Inside, the “dashboard panel surfaces were changed to give a more relaxed feel.”

Last but not least, the Elgrand Glassier was created by 4th year students from the Mechanic & Customize Course in Kyoto. It’s an off-road focused van that is designed for family camping trips.

Given its purpose, the Elgrand has been given a rugged makeover that sees the van outfitted with an X-Trail front end. That isn’t the only change as the model sports auxiliary lights and a roof-mounted tent.

In order to venture off the beaten path, the van has been equipped with a lifted suspension that provides an additional 1.6 inches (4 cm) of ground clearance. They’re joined by RAYS wheels that are wrapped in all-terrain tires. Other highlights include “contemporary straight-line tail lamps” and a two-tone paint job that is designed to recall the “light of early dawn.”
