One of just 121 Spyker C8 Spyder models ever built will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s on January 25 and for anyone wanting to own a eccentric sports car unlike any other out there, this could be the perfect option.
Spyker was originally founded in 1880 by Dutch brothers Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijker and assembled cars, carriages, and aircraft. The company went bankrupt in 1922 before its name, motto, and logo were revived by the unrelated company, Spyker Cars, in 1999 and led by Maarten de Brujin and Victor Muller. The firm has fallen into bankruptcy multiple times over the last two decades but its staple model, the C8, remains just as desirable now as it was when it was new.

This particular C8 Spyder was ordered new by the current owner from Spyker of Silicon Valley in California and is painted in Midnight Blue. It has been driven just 2,632 miles (4,235 km) since new and has been well-maintained since leaving the factory in 2009. Contrasting the Midnight Blue paint are a selection of chrome accents, including the wing mirrors, side air intakes, and the silver-painted wheels.
Like all other C8 Spyders, the highlight of the car is perhaps the cabin which is adorned in luscious quilted leather. There are also plenty of aluminum parts found throughout, including the completely exposed shifter, and the unique instrument cluster. It even has a billet-machined pedal box.
Fitted beneath the sultry and sexy bodywork of the C8 Spyder is an Audi-sourced 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that’s mated to a six-speed Getrag transmission driving the rear wheels. The auction house expects the car to sell for between $300,000 and $400,000.
