Ineos has issued a recall for 61 examples of the Grenadier SUV in the United States due to an issue that could lead to the steering system failing.
The small British carmaker has revealed that on certain 2023MY and 2024MY vehicles, incorrect non-locking steering rod ball joint nuts may have been used during assembly instead of a locking nut. As such, the non-locking nuts could become loose over time and fall off completely. This could cause the steering rod ball joint to uncouple from the steering knuckle and trigger a loss of steering functionality.

A total of 61 Grenadiers are involved. These include 2023MY and 2024MY examples manufactured between May 17, 2023, and December 4, 2023. Owners may notice steering free play, excessive vibrations, or noise from the steering system if their vehicle has the incorrect nut.
Ineos was alerted to two reports of vehicles with loose steering rods in early December 2023 and also for a vehicle with a lost drag link while off-roading. It then initiated an investigation of internal fleet vehicles and found one vehicle where a non-locking nut was used instead of a locking nut at the steering rod ball joint. It notes that even if this non-locking nut is torqued correctly, there’s a possibility that it will loosen over time.
Fortunately for the company, just 5 of the 61 Grenadiers impacted by the recall have been delivered to customers. The owners will be alerted to the recall around January 26 and verified Ineos dealers will replace the steering rod ball joint nuts free of charge.
