A pair of electric motors give the Ioniq 5 N up to 641 hp and helped it match the time of a Mercedes-AMG E 63

A Hyundai Ioniq 5 N tested by Sport Auto has managed to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 45.59 seconds, confirming that the EV is just as track-focused as the car manufacturer has been telling us.
The lap was recorded as part of Sport Auto’s familiar Supertest with Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel and was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires at the time. Even though the Ioniq 5 N did not set a production car lap record for an EV, a time of 7:45.59 is impressive.
While it appears as though Sport Auto recorded the lap time on the sightly smaller configuration of the track, which is 200 m (656 feet) shorter than the full lap, the time places the Ioniq 5 N in the same realm as the 2019 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupe that was lapped by Gebhardt for Sport Auto a few years ago in a time of 7:44.13. It’s also close to the 7:45.19 of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4Matic+ Estate as tested by Sport Auto.

It’s also worth noting that manufacturer-conducted tests are often sightly quicker than those performed by Sport Auto. We know that Hyundai itself has tested the Ioniq 5 N on the Nurburgring and proclaimed that it can complete two full laps at full speed and both in under 8 minutes. Additionally, the Ioniq 5 N is quite a big vehicle with a 3-meter wheelbase and a massive cabin, more than equivalent to a mid-sized SUV.
Powering the Ioniq 5 N is an 84 kWh battery pack driving a pair of electric motors and producing a combined 601 hp in regular model or 641 hp with the N Grin Boost mode enabled. The car can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.25 seconds and it’s interesting to note that Gebhardt drove it with the synthetic exhaust sounds enabled.
