Following the lead of the facelifted 4-Series, BMW is bringing a smattering of upgrades to the 2025 model year for both the M4 and M4 convertible.

While most of the changes are centered around minor exterior and interior tweaks, the biggest news is that the 2025 M4 Competition xDrive convertible and coupe will be getting 20 extra horsepower. That bumps the output of the top-spec M4 to 523 hp (530 PS / 390 kW).

The bump in power for the all-wheel drive M4 Competition models doesn’t translate into any faster acceleration times or increases in top speed. The 2025 M4 Competition xDrive coupe will still sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds or 3.6 seconds for the convertible — the same as the outgoing model. Top speed is limited to 155 mph (249 km/h) as standard, although the optional M Driver’s Package will raise that to 180 mph (290 km/h) for the coupe or 174 mph (280 km/h) for the drop-top.

2025 BMW M4 Facelift Brings New Lights And 20HP Boost For Competition xDrive

The rear-wheel drive 2025 BMW M4 Competition remains at 503 hp, while the base M4 continues to *cough* “make do” with 473 hp. The base 2025 M4 also retains its six-speed manual gearbox to delight the purists.

What likely won’t impress fans of the old-school is the minimal changes to the M4’s exterior. While we weren’t expecting revolution, the changes really are squint, or you’ll miss it. Up front, there are redesigned headlights. BMW says that the new look is more functional, with low and high beams now incorporated into the same LED module. Meanwhile, the new “arrowhead” design daytime running lights double as turn signals.

Moving to the rear, the taillights have been improved, with technology trickling down from the limited-edition BMW M4 CSL. BMW calls it laser technology, and the effect is stunning. Plus, it will likely give the aftermarket community a new project to replicate, if nothing else.

Staying at the back, we get into new levels of nitpicking by pointing out that the BMW M badge on the trunk lid is now bordered in silver, while the roundel surrounds are finished in gloss black. Riveting stuff. Oh, and there’s a new set of M design graphics available for the hood and trunk lid for that ultimate Need For Speed: Underground vibe.

Slightly more interesting is a new selection of wheels, both inside and out. On the four corners, you now get one more option of M forged light-alloy wheels in bright silver.

Inside, there’s a new design for the standard steering wheel, which features a flat bottom, modified spokes, and a red strip at 12 o’clock. You can also get the same design in grippy Alcantara for the first time.

Other interior changes are limited to the trim coming as standard in dark graphite matte finish, while polished aluminum trim is an option. And for those of you who thought the fake cowhide on the outgoing model just wasn’t up to scratch, the optional Sensatec (BMW-speak for their synthetic leather) dashboard upholstery has been upgraded to a finer grain.

BMW’s curved display stays, which comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen positioned in the center of the dashboard. Under the skin, you get a few more advances for the 2025 MY. Now running on BMW Operating System 8.5, the new software has apparently enabled the interior designers to cut down on the number of physical buttons. There’s a redesigned instrument panel, new toggles for the dashboard HVAC vents, plus even more ambient lighting.
