Netflix’s much-loved documentary series following Formula One’s biggest personalities is back with its sixth season. As is traditional, the premiere of the new batch episode comes shortly before the start of the F1 season.

The streamer dropped the first trailer for season six of “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” and you can watch it below. The video focuses on the difficulties drivers face on and off the track, and the importance of keeping those worlds separate, in order to perform as well as possible.

Following the internal drama and the difficulties each driver faces within their own team seems like a good strategy, because the 2023 racing season didn’t provide that much championship drama. You may recall that the top step of the podium last year was almost exclusively reserved for Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

However, there was plenty of action behind him, around which to form a season of compelling TV. Based on the first trailer, one of the topics of interest for the season will be driver Nyck de Vries’ brief stint for Alpha Tauri.

The driver was given a seat at the Red Bull junior team following an impressive Grand Prix in 2022, when he subbed in for Williams driver Alex Albon. Unfortunately, he failed to impress with Alpha Tauri and was brutally replaced by returning driver Daniel Ricciardo midway through the season.

It would appear that the series will also focus on Aston Martin, where driver Fernando Alonso had a thrilling start to the season, and thoroughly outscored teammate Lance Stroll. The managerial troubles at his old team, Alpine, may also be a focus, as Otmar Szafnauer, who was let go by the team mid-season, can also be seen in the trailer.

And the Netflix team really knows what it’s doing, having put Lewis Hamilton on the title card for the trailer. The driver announced recently that he would be moving to Ferrari in 2025 following a second disappointing season at Mercedes.

So there will be a lot to watch despite Max Verstappen’s dominance when “Formula 1: Drive To Survive” season six is released on February 23. Then it will only be a few days before the 2024 F1 season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 2.
