Normally, when rich people commission a one-off vehicle from an automaker, it is understood that no one else will be able to repeat their design. But when a couple from California ordered a two-tone Bentley Bentayga EWB through Mulliner, their request paved the way for the option to be available to all customers ahead of schedule.

Bentley was already working to offer two-tone paint finishes on the extended wheelbase version of its posh SUV as a factory option. However, when the Pecks, a couple from Irvine, California, ordered theirs, it wasn’t ready yet. So they turned to Mulliner to see what could be done.

“With a Mulliner commission, anything is possible,” said Phill Dean, Mulliner’s Design Manager. “We started to discuss the specification in the showroom at Newport Beach, but it soon became clear that we needed more time to go over every tiny detail. We resumed the commissioning at the customers’ home — we finished at around 1:00 am.”

The unique Bentayga EWB Azure V8 First Edition that can be seen in these photos, features a special Kingfisher blue paint. The couple believed that incorporating Onyx black paint would help tie everything together, and complement the Blackline styling package that came with the model.

Dean called the factory to see what could be done and, eventually, it was decided that Bentley would accelerate the development and launch the option. Thanks to the Pecks’ request, two-tone paint is available to other buyers a full year ahead of schedule.

To match the special, one-off paint, the 22-inch 10-spoke wheels have been finished in a matching Kingfisher blue and Beluga. In addition, the Bentley lettering has also been deleted from the rear of the Bentayga. So dedicated to respecting the family’s requests, that the company even printed a punctuation error.

What’s With The Treadplate?

Couple Wanted A Two-Tone Bentayga, So Bentley Launched The Option A Year Early

A special commemorative kick plate was added to the car, but on it there’s an apostrophe after the Peck name, making it possessive, rather than plural. We reached out to Bentley to see what happened, and the company told us that the piece is shown “as the customer requested.” I guess anything really is possible for Mulliner.

Inside, the buyers once again wanted a two-tone finish, and brought some of the outside in with blue panels in the Mandarin-colored leather seats. They are joined by Kingfisher accents on the steering wheel, the gear selector, and the door trim.

While the option of two-tone paint colors is now being offered as a factory option on the Bentayga EWB, that might not be a huge deal for Bentley customers, 75 percent of whom decided to work with Mulliner’s customization team in 2023.
