We already knew that Mercedes-AMG was working on a new high-performance four-door EV but all we had was the Vision AMG concept from 2022. This changes today as a prototype of the electric AMG made its spy debut in Germany, hiding under a thick layer of camo.

Our spy photographers caught two prototypes of the high-performance EV with different kinds of camouflage wrap covering their entire bodywork. The exterior design appears to be heavily influenced by the Vision AMG concept. The low-slung silhouette and aerodynamic roofline look sexier than those of a Mercedes EQS, largely thanks to the longer hood and the pronounced rear shoulders.

The headlights and taillights appear to be provisional units, but the active rear spoiler at the back looks like the real deal. The prototype with the light-colored camouflage is more revealing, as it’s missing the bulky plastic pieces attached to the bumpers and the hood of the black example.

The electric AMG model is expected to debut the all-new AMG.EA architecture. This will be reserved for fully electric AMG models, with a focus on sporty handling and performance.

According to earlier reports, the electric four-door model will feature lightweight electric motors from the UK-based firm Yasa and a slimmer energy-dense battery pack from US-based Sila. With a rumored output close to 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS), it will be significantly more powerful than its plug-in hybrid cousin, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door 63 S 4MATIC+ E Performance which makes 832 hp (620 kW / 843 PS).

Affalterbach’s answer to the Porsche Taycan is expected to arrive in 2025, as the fully electric equivalent of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door. The latter was originally introduced back in 2018, but thanks to the mild facelift it received for 2024, it could remain on sale alongside its electric counterpart. It remains to be seen if the automaker will choose a more attractive name for the EV, or stick with a variation of the AMG GT 4-Door moniker.
