Rivian Unlocks Tesla Superchargers For R1T And R1S

Rivian owners in North America will gain access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network this month, making it much easier to charge up than ever before.

The electric startup confirmed in mid-2023 that its vehicles would gain access to the Supercharger network, thanks to the introduction of a NACS adapter for R1T and R1S owners. Subsequently, it will transition to the NACS plug for the upcoming R2 series of vehicles and future R1 models. Shipments of the NACS adapter will commence shortly, and this month, Supercharger sites will be integrated into the in-vehicle and app trip planners.

All current R1T and R1S owners will receive a complimentary NACS adapter to utilize the Supercharger network. Additional adapters will be purchasable through the company’s online Gear Shop, although pricing details are currently unavailable. Notably, Ford customers have also recently been granted access to the Supercharger network and are being offered a free NACS adapter until June 30. After this period, the adapter will be priced at $230.

Interestingly, Rivian is continuing to build out its adventure network of chargers across North America. It plans to have more than 3,500 fast chargers at roughly 600 sites across the U.S. within the next two years. These chargers are designed for charging outputs of up to 300 kW.

The EV maker also has a second network of chargers, known as the Rivian Waypoints, which are Level 2 chargers located near shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, parks, and other popular destinations. It plans to build more than 10,000 Waypoints across the U.S. and Canada and they will be open to other EVs.

Stellantis was the most recent automaker to announce the adoption of the NACS plug for its future EVs starting with “select” 2026 model year vehicles.
