The new Rivian SUV outperforms the rivaling Tesla Model Y Performance, completing the 0-60 mph sprint in 3 seconds

- Update March 6: Rivian has just released the final teaser for the R2 ahead of tomorrow’s grand unveiling, showcasing the electric SUV’s greenhouse peeking out from behind a bundle of weeds.
As the countdown continues for the Rivian R2’s grand reveal on March 7, a leaked dossier of specifications has surfaced online, offering a glimpse into the hotly anticipated EV’s realm, complete with its starting price.
The specs were discovered on the backend of the startup’s official website by Rivian owner and X user Chris Hilbert, using a web inspector. Rivian later removed them, but once something hits the web, it stays there. The new Rivian R2 will apparently start from $47,500, remaining within the previously announced $40-60k price bracket.
The driving range will be up to 330 miles (531 km), and 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) can come as low as 3 seconds, meaning that the Rivian R2 will outperform the Tesla Model Y Performance. As with the Rivian R1S and R1T, the R2 will be able to charge in Tesla’s Superchargers as it will be compatible with both NACS and CCS charging ports.

The R2 will measure 185.6 inches (4,714 mm) long, 75 inches (1,905 mm) wide, and 66.9 inches (1,699 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 115.6 inches (2,936 mm). We also know it will have a ground clearance of 9.8 inches (249 mm) and ride on 32-inch tires. Finally, the approach angle will be 25° and the departure 27°.
Predictably, the Rivian R2 is much smaller than the R1S, positioned against the Tesla Model Y. More specifically, it is 15.2 inches (386 mm) shorter, 4.3 inches (109 mm) narrower, and 10.4 inches (264 mm) shorter than its bigger Rivian SUV brother, with 5.5 inches (137 mm) less distance between the axles.
As hinted at by the official teasers, the Rivian R2 will inherit the design language of the R1S and R1T, featuring a boxy shape and a similar lighting signature with full-width LED bars on both ends.
We will learn everything about the new electric SUV in two days on March 7.
