Towing a vehicle can be a treacherous task in some circumstances, but that’s even more true when one doesn’t dot their i’s and cross their t’s. In the case of one driver, failure to do so led him to an unexpected sprinting event to save not one but two vehicles that were rolling away. The video below shows what we’re calling the dealership shuttle run.

Brought to us by Reddit poster Wi_PackFan_1985, the video begins innocuously enough. A man behind the wheel of a Ford Super Duty pickup makes his way across the field of view with a Dodge Journey on a trailer that he’s towing. Moments later he brings the truck to a stop and the drama ensues.

The force of the stop allows the Journey to roll up the trailer just a bit and then back down. As it comes to rest, the tension on the winch holding it on the trailer is too great and the winch itself breaks free from the truck. The driver notices this, sees the Dodge begin to roll back off of the trailer, and leaps out of the truck in a mad dash to stop the SUV before it hits something.

As he races on foot toward the Dodge the winch gets tangled in the tailgate of the truck and then rips it straight off of the pickup. Once the winch is free, the Ford begins to roll in the opposite direction. The man reaches the Dodge, slams on the brakes, and realizes what’s happening across the lot. Once again, he turns on the afterburners in an effort to reach the truck before it smashes into something.

By the time he reaches it, the truck is fully out of frame but we’re going to assume that he was successful based on the lurch and abrupt stop of the trailer. The entire incident takes less than thirty seconds but we get the feeling this driver will remember it forever.

It appears as though he simply neglected several safety protocols like securing the car to the trailer with more than the winch, applying its parking brake once it was on the trailer, leveling the trailer before moving it, and of course, putting the truck in park before chasing the Dodge.
