Maybe the Wordle answer on Friday should be P-A-R-T-Y. Wordle, the New York Times-owned online puzzle, is celebrating its 1,000th game. The Times bought the game from creator Josh Wardle for seven figures in 2022. A Times spokesperson told me it lists the very first Wordle as appearing on June 19, 2021, so if your games-played streak spans from the Times 2022 acquisition, you may not have a 1,000-game streak.
Game 1,000 is Friday, March 15, and to celebrate, the Empire State Building lit up in Wordle colors — green, yellow and white. If you’re in New York, you can get special treats through March 27, with a ton offered on Friday itself.
