  • Hyundai is testing a redesigned Palisade with a bolder design that’s expected to debut next year
  • Interior rumored for major upgrade with a large curved display and higher quality materials
  • A turbocharged engine, possibly a 3.5-liter V6, could replace the current naturally-aspirated unit

Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the facelifted Tucson and Santa Cruz at the New York Auto Show, but the brand is also working on a redesigned Palisade. It’s expected to debut next year and it’s been spied once again.

Caught undergoing testing in the United States, the model is heavily disguised but appears to incorporate some pretty significant changes. While details are hard to make out, it looks like the crossover will adopt a more pronounced front bumper and a boxier grille.

Elsewhere, there are evolutionary headlights that are mounted higher up. We can also expect to see a seamless horizon lamp, which has quickly become a Hyundai trademark.

Further back, the Palisade has blacked out A-pillars and muscular front fenders. They’re joined by a flatter beltline and sportier roof rails that echo those found on the redesigned Santa Fe.

Some of the biggest changes occur inside as previous spy photos have shown the Palisade will have an expansive curved display and higher quality materials. We can also expect a Santa Fe-sourced steering wheel, a curved lower dash, and a split center console that provides easy access to charging ports.

Spy photographers have already got a shot underneath the hood and this confirms the model will be offered with a turbocharged engine. It’s rumored to be a 3.5-liter V6, which should easily eclipse the 291 hp (217 kW / 295 PS) produced by today’s naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter unit.

There have also been rumors about a hybrid variant with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Little is known about it, but a document suggested it will arrive in 2025, which is right around when the Palisade is expected to debut.

While there are more questions than answers at this point, the Palisade has been a resounding success for Hyundai. Sales were up 8% last year to 89,509 units and this meant the three-row crossover was one of the brand’s best-selling vehicles overall. In particular, it finished fourth in the United States behind the Tucson, Elantra, and Santa Fe.
