A labeling issue means that Stellantis must now print 1,201 new stickers with rim size information for the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet

Making a car is very complicated, and there’s a lot to remember. So much so, that Stellantis appears to have recently chunked it, and plum forgot that it needed to include rim size information on a label to satisfy under U.S. regulations, and must now reprint stickers for 1,201 vehicles.
To be fair, the two vehicles in question are both made in Europe, so the manufacturing team probably had more than one set of regulations to keep in mind. It just so happens that they made a similar oopsie with a non-compliant tire placard, reporting an incorrect vehicle capacity weight value earlier this month. Whatever the cause, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet were also sent to the U.S. with incorrect wheel information labels.

Stellantis first became aware of the problem on February 26, when its European Customer Experience team was notified of a potential issue with the sticker. This led to a relatively short, day-long investigation, which determined that the label had indeed been printed without important information.
Specifically, the company reports that the Hornet and Tonale’s stickers are missing information about rim size. While it would be a bit dramatic to call this an imminent threat to safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that installing the wrong size rim can increase the risk of a crash.
Perhaps more importantly, all automakers are required to show this information, under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 571.110 S4.3.3. So, like a fed up parent scolding a child, Stellantis is effectively required to update its stickers because NHTSA said so.

Fortunately, the solution shouldn’t be too difficult to implement. As part of this recall, Stellantis will print out new stickers with the correct information on them. Starting on May 8, it will reach out to customers with affected vehicles and let them know that the new label must be stuck to their vehicle. As always, this recall fix will be completed at no cost to the owner.
