The HEMI era is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean the end of performance vehicles. Quite the opposite as Ram appears to be teasing the TRX successor.

While there isn’t much to see besides a camouflaged pickup and an unveiling date of April 25, Ram has already confirmed plans for a 1500 RHO. The company didn’t say much about it, but they revealed the truck would be launched in the third quarter of 2024 and sport a high output Hurricane engine.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six is slated to have an output of 540 hp (403 kW / 548 PS) and 521 lb-ft (706 Nm) of torque. It’ll be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and what we expect is a full-time four-wheel drive system.

That’s significantly more power than the standard output engine, which produces 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 469 lb-ft (635 Nm) of torque. However, it pales in comparison to the TRX’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that developed 702 hp (523 kW / 712 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque.

More interestingly, the Ram 1500 RHO will effectively slot between the Ford F-150 Raptor and Raptor R. The former has a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 450 hp (336 kW / 456 PS) and 510 lb-ft (691 Nm) of torque, while the latter has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 developing 720 hp (530 kW / 730 PS) and 640 lb-ft (868 Nm).

Given the reduced output, it seems possible the Ram 1500 RHO could be significantly more affordable than the TRX. The 2024 model started at $96,585 whereas the F-150 Raptor begins at $78,330. The Raptor R, on the other hand, is an insane $110,255.

We can expect to learn more about the 1500 RHO shortly, but the standard truck recently received an extensive facelift that added the aforementioned engines as well as a host of other upgrades. In particular, the cabin is now a high-tech affair as it offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and a 10.25-inch front passenger display.
