  • Revised 2025 BMW i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe complete the facelifted 4-series line-up.
  • Both models feature subtle changes to their exterior and interiors, as well as new colors and wheel designs.
  • Powertrains remain unchanged for the i4, while 4 Series Gran Coupe gets revised mild-hybrid offerings.

Subtle is the best way to describe the latest update that has been brought to the 2025 BMW i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe. The i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe will get sharper headlights, a subtly tweaked grille, and “Laserlight” taillamps. There are also new wheel designs and a refreshed color palette.

In terms of mechanical upgrades, the i4 stays the same, but the 2025 430i and M440i receive updated powertrains with 48-volt hybrid tech.

We’ve already seen many of the changes on the 4-Series Coupe and M4 models, and just like them, it’s a bit of a squint-or-you’ll-miss-it update. The same goes for the insides. You get a few more materials to play around with, while the 4-Series family is also brought up to date with the BMW OS 8.5 operating system.

Exterior Changes

Starting at the front, the headlights have been redesigned with LED graphics that incorporate the boomerang-style DRLs we’ve seen on other new Bimmers. BMW evidently had to make some additional changes to the appearance, so they decided to play around with the exterior accent finishes. The grille has been tweaked, with the surround now finished in matte chrome, both as standard and when specified with the M Sport package. Fans of gloss black, fear not. You can still delete the chrome — but you’ll have to option it.

The rear has the same “Laserlight” taillights that were first introduced on the limited-edition BMW M4 CSL. If you choose the M Sport package on either the i4 or the 4 Series Gran Coupe, you’ll get a lower diffuser element that is now painted in a high-gloss black regardless of options.

But if you want the tailpipes to match the diffuser, like the grille, you’ll have to spec it out. The good news, for owners of combustion models at least, is that the size of the exhaust tips has grown an all-important half an inch — from 3.5 inches to 4 inches. Rounding out the exterior changes are two new exterior colors, Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red metallic, and a new 19- and 20-inch wheel designs.

Mild Interior Update With Fewer Buttons

Fans of functional buttons will be disappointed to hear that for the i4 and 4-Series Grand Coupe’s LCI, the number of interior buttons has been reduced. Instead, things are going more digital, with functionality being incorporated into the updated BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

QuickSelect is BMW-speak for their infotainment skin which allows for commonly used functions to be directly selected from the home screen. Like a mobile phone. Or any intuitive infotainment system come to think of it. Either way, the functions of the automatic climate control system and seat and steering wheel heating can now be operated by touch via the BMW Curved Display.

Other interior updates for the 2025 model year include new brushed trim and wood option and the option of a “Galvanic finish” for the gear selector, iDrive Controller, and Start/Stop button. There are also improvements to BMW’s artificial leather, “Sensatec.” The upholstery now has a smoother and more refined surface and is the standard material that comes for the sports seats, with leather being an optional extra. Speaking of which, the sports seats are now fitted as standard to the i4 and 4-Series Gran Coupe range.

Revised Hybrid Power For Combustion Models

Underneath the hood, the 430i packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that features 48-volt mild hybrid integration. BMW says that the combustion engine itself has been upgraded with a reworking of the intake ports and combustion chambers, plus some tweaks to the camshaft control, injection, ignition system, and exhaust gas routing. Presumably, the benefits can be felt on the road, but on paper, output remains the same as the outgoing model, with 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

For the more potent M440i Gran Coupe, you get the same 3.0-liter inline-six that features in the 540i xDrive and X5 xDrive40i. Like the lower-powered 430i the M440i gets 48-volt mild hybrid wizardry for an additional boost of 11 hp (8 kW / 11 PS) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque that can be activated for around 10 seconds. The powertrain churns out a combined output of 386 hp (288 kW / 391 PS) and 398 lb-ft (539 Nm) of torque. BMW estimates that it’s enough to get the M440i up to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds in rear-wheel drive form or 4.3 seconds in xDrive all-wheel drive trim.
